How to Care for Your New Epoxy Floor

Epoxy is low-maintenance, not no-maintenance. A few simple habits keep it looking like the day we finished it.

One of the best things about an epoxy floor is how little it asks of you. Still, a few simple habits will keep the finish looking sharp for years.

Everyday cleaning

Grit is what dulls a floor over time, so the most important step is also the easiest.

  • Sweep or dust-mop regularly to remove sand and grit
  • Mop with warm water and a mild, pH-neutral cleaner
  • Rinse and dry any soapy film so it does not leave residue

Spills and stains

Wipe up oil, antifreeze, paint and chemicals soon after they happen. Epoxy resists them well, but leaving them to sit is never a good idea.

Skip harsh acids, citrus or vinegar-based cleaners and abrasive scrubbing pads, which can dull the gloss.

Protect it from damage

A coated floor is tough, but not indestructible.

  • Put a plywood pad or mat under motorcycle and bike kickstands and jack stands
  • Use soft wheels or pads under heavy rolling equipment
  • Lift heavy items rather than dragging them
